Â
1. Purpose
Â
RCM Languages aims to provide a positive, supportive and respectful learning environment in which all students feel comfortable participating and are able to make progress.
Â
This Code of Conduct sets out the expectations for students participating in 1:1 and group tuition, as well as expectations for parents and guardians where relevant.
Â
2. Respectful Behaviour
Â
Students are expected to:
-
treat the tutor and other students with respect;
-
communicate politely and appropriately;
-
listen when others are speaking;
-
avoid behaviour that disrupts the lesson or another student's learning;
-
follow reasonable instructions relating to the lesson; and
-
contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment.
Â
Bullying, harassment, discrimination, threatening behaviour, abusive language or sexually inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.
Â
Parents and guardians are also expected to communicate with the tutor in a respectful and appropriate manner.
Â
3. Joining Online Lessons
Â
Students should:
-
join lessons punctually;
-
use their real name when joining Google Meet or Google Classroom;
-
have the equipment and materials they need for the lesson;
-
participate from an appropriate study or communal space where reasonably possible;
-
avoid participating from a bedroom where reasonably practicable; and
-
be appropriately dressed for an online educational setting.
Â
For students under 18, a parent, guardian or other responsible adult should be present in the home and reasonably accessible during tuition. They do not need to sit in on the lesson.
Â
4. Cameras and Participation
Â
Students are normally expected to have their camera switched on during both 1:1 and group tuition.
Â
Reasonable exceptions may be made where appropriate, including where individual circumstances or additional needs make this difficult.
Â
Students are encouraged to participate actively, ask questions and engage with lesson activities.
Â
5. Group Lessons
Â
Students participating in group tuition should help to create an environment in which everyone has an opportunity to learn and contribute.
Â
Students should:
-
avoid interrupting or speaking over others;
-
allow other students time to answer and contribute;
-
use any chat or messaging features appropriately;
-
avoid deliberately distracting other students; and
-
respect differences in ability, confidence and learning pace.
Â
Students must not make inappropriate comments about another student's answers, mistakes or performance.
Â
6. Online Safety and Privacy
Â
Lesson links, Google Classroom access details and other resources intended for a particular student or group must not be shared with unauthorised individuals.
Â
Students must not:
-
invite another person into an online lesson without prior agreement;
-
photograph, record or screen-record lessons without permission;
-
take or distribute screenshots of the tutor or other students without permission; or
-
share another student's personal information or work without permission.
Â
Students should tell the tutor or a parent/guardian if anything happens during an RCM Languages lesson that makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
Â
7. Communication
Â
For students under 18, bookings, payments, cancellations and other administrative matters will normally be communicated through a parent or guardian.
Â
Students may contact me through the RCM Languages email address for legitimate educational purposes, including asking questions about their work or submitting work.
Â
RCM Languages social media accounts are used for business and promotional purposes and are not a routine channel for private communication with students under 18.
Â
If a student under 18 contacts RCM Languages through social media, educational communication may be redirected to the RCM Languages email address and administrative matters to their parent or guardian.
Â
I will not use personal social media accounts to communicate privately with students under 18.
Â
8. Homework and Independent Work
Â
Students may be provided with homework, revision activities or other consolidation tasks.
Â
Completion of these activities is strongly encouraged, as regular independent practice can support progress, but homework is not compulsory unless otherwise agreed.
Â
Students should make a genuine attempt at any work they choose to submit for feedback.
Â
9. Academic Honesty
Â
RCM Languages can provide guidance, explanations, feedback and support with schoolwork and examination preparation.
Â
Students remain responsible for ensuring that work submitted to their school, examination centre or another institution is their own and complies with the relevant academic rules.
Â
I will not complete assessed work on a student's behalf.
Â
10. Resources
Â
Teaching materials supplied by RCM Languages are provided for the student's personal educational use unless otherwise stated.
Â
Students should not upload, sell, publicly distribute or commercially reproduce RCM Languages teaching materials without permission.
Â
11. Breaches of the Code of Conduct
Â
Where a minor issue arises, I will normally address it with the student during the lesson and, where appropriate, discuss it with their parent or guardian.
Â
Serious or repeated breaches of this Code of Conduct may result in:
-
a student being asked to stop a particular behaviour;
-
a lesson being ended early;
-
a parent or guardian being contacted;
-
a student being removed from a group; or
-
tuition being discontinued.
Â
Any decision to end tuition will be handled in accordance with the RCM Languages Terms & Conditions.
Â
Where behaviour raises a safeguarding concern, it will be handled in accordance with the RCM Languages Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy.
Â
12. Related Policies
